December 7th, 1945

My fellow Americans, it has been a long war, it has been a hard war. Four years ago today, we were plunged into a state of war by the treacherous actions of the Empire of Japan. In the days following that tragedy, we were drawn into the conflict in Europe by our enemies in Germany and Italy. Countless lives have been lost since those days and though gains have been made since I came to office, we are no closer to victory than we were then.

The face of this war has changed. We began by defending our freedom, the victims of an unprovoked attack. We rushed to the aid of our allies in Europe, helping defend them against the hostilities of Germany. As the years went on, we attempted to drive our enemies out of the lands that they had so forcibly stolen from their neighbors. Our efforts to bring this war to a quick conclusion have failed and now, it drags on.

We have created terrifying new weapons that have been unleashed upon the world and we have suffered for it. This war cannot be won with such instruments of mass destruction but instead must be won by the hearts and minds of our soldiers in the field. It is by the blood of these brave men that victory will be achieved.

Our troops on the ground, in the air and at sea have at their disposal the latest advances in modern technology. It is with continued scientific research that they will be able to combat the terrifying horrors that have been set loose upon us by our enemies. I will continue to support our soldiers by providing them with the technological resources they need to win this war.

In Europe, we have reached a stalemate with our enemies. We have gained a significant foothold in France and Paris is once again in our hands. With the aid of our Allies in Western Europe we have shown the Germans that they cannot take what is not theirs. We have prevented them from gaining further ground and will do everything in our power to drive them out of France completely and push them back beyond the Rhine. However, due to the monstrous creations of the Third Reich and the failures of our allies in the east, we have been prevented from succeeding in our mission. We can no longer rely on a successful campaign in Eastern Europe and must instead focus our efforts into new offensives against Germany. In the months to come, we will drive our forces into the heart of the enemy and defeat them once and for all.

I speak to you now from the beaches of the Pacific, where we have pushed our enemy back to mainland Asia. We are now in control of many of the island-chains of the Pacific and from these staging points continue our attacks against the Japanese Empire. Our marines and naval forces have worked tirelessly and fought against the biological and chemical weapons of our enemy to make significant gains and I am here in their honor to show them that though I am no longer with them on the battlefield, I continue to be beside them in spirit. With the continued success of our forces in the Pacific, we will take the fight to Japan and make them pay for the treachery of Pearl Harbor.

Since taking office last year, I have continued to press our enemies on all fronts. Working with our armed forces, these offenses have been met with continuing success. I am certain that with greater technological advances and by maintaining this momentum, we shall prove victorious in this conflict.

We have come so far and yet still must press on if we are to achieve victory. We must endure the horrors of our enemies with strength and perseverance. We will succeed! It is only through the efforts of all the American people that this war will be brought to a close and the tyranny of evil will be defeated. I thank my fellow soldiers for the sacrifices they have made and I thank every man, woman and child of the United States for their courage in this trying time. Victory will be ours.
